Matt B. Bailey, CFA, CMT head Portfolio Manager at Wealth & Pension Services Group in Smyrna, GA has earned the prestigious Chartered Market Technician® (CMT®) designation.
The Market Technicians Association (MTA) was incorporated as a not-for-profit Association in 1973, but began holding meetings as early as 1971. The MTA is a not-for-profit professional regulatory organization servicing over 4,500 market analysis professionals in over 85 countries around the globe. Its main objectives involve the education of the public, the investment community and its membership in the theory, practice and application of technical analysis.
The MTA's Chartered Market Technician (CMT) program, the industry’s gold standard in technical analysis, took years to get off the ground and many people worked hard to make it happen in the second half of the 1980’s. The first tests were given and the first CMTs were granted in 1989. In 2005 the NASD submitted a rule filing with the Securities and Exchange Commission to accept the CMT 1 and 2 as an alternative to the Series 86 examination required of financial analysts.
The CMT Program requires candidates to demonstrate proficiency in a broad range of topics in the field of Technical Analysis. The Program consists of three levels. The CMT Level I and CMT Level II exams are multiple choice while CMT Level III exam is in short answer and essay form.
The CMT designation demonstrates to clients and potential clients, employers and potential employers, and one’s colleagues and peers that they are a professional in the field of Technical Analysis.
